IBF tees off ‘irreplaceable’ Mooloolaba pad

IAN Baker-Finch has teed off his prized Mooloolaba unit with the prime positioned waterfront pad fetching $3.95 million.

The homegrown professional golfer purchased the apartment off the plan in 2010 and reluctantly parted ways with the property in an emotional goodbye.

A high-profile Brisbane family who have property in Mooloolaba jumped at the opportunity and splashed out $15,000 per square metre.

The three-bedroom apartment at 87 Mooloolaba Esplanade, was sold by G1 Property principal Simon Guilfoyle, a man who was involved in the Sea Pearl highrise development.

Mr Guilfoyle said it was rare that people parted ways with Esplanade real estate.

“In my view, it’s the best building on the front row of Mooloolaba,” Mr Guilfoyle said.

“It was a really difficult and emotional sale, but the new owners are a lovely family.”

Mr Guilfoyle described Mr Baker-Finch, known over the years as the Dark Shark, Finchy and IBF, as a “great” man.

Sea Pearl building was first developed by Sunshine Coast development players Graeme Juniper and then through Shane and Liz Leadbetter.

“I remember Shane and Liz asking me what they should design and develop and I said ‘something that people want and something that’s never been done before’,” Mr Guilfoyle said.

“And that’s 23 luxury ocean-front apartments which are literally irreplaceable.

“We sold the majority of these off the plan and the ones to sell have had phenomenal capital gain.”

Mr Guilfoyle sold Sea Pearl’s record sale price for the apartment above Mr Baker-Finch’s for $4.4 million in 2018.

“It shows quality property is always in demand, we can’t get people to sell them,” he said.
