Young singers urged to join choir
IF YOU’RE under the age of 25 and reckon you can hold a high note, be sure to get along to Maryborough City Hall this Wednesday.
The Maryborough Youth Choir is holding its annual auditions for its junior sector – primary school – and its senior sector – secondary school to 25 years of age.
“To audition, all you need to be able to do is sing in tune,” said musician Tracey Wright.
“Because we sing everything in harmony, you have to be able to hold your pitch.”
Ms Wright said the audition would involve singing alone without music.
“It’s just in front of me ... and then I run a couple of little oral tests.”
There were currently 35 members of the choir. Ms Wright said the decision to split the choir in two this year was because “choosing a repertoire suitable for everybody was becoming a bit tricky.”
Members would rehearse on Wednesdays and perform at various community events.
Anyone interested in auditioning should be at the City Hall at 6pm on Wednesday.
