GOLF: Impressive golf ends Matchplay

SOME impressive golf was played in the final rounds of the Palm Lake Matchplay.

Div 1 was a battle of the big hitters, but Regina Schaerer rarely missed a fairway and put in a strong putting performance to finally wear down Tracey Moore and take the honours.

Strategy was paramount in the Div 2 battle, and while Penny Rowell was the early leader, turning two up, Fran Lacey then found another gear, producing some great shots over the final nine holes to take out the match.

Well done to our professional, Matt Keegan, and the Ladies Holden Scramble team, Jenny Davies, Cheryl Cox, Helen Glaister and Robyn Whelan for their third placing in the regional finals recently at Pelican Waters.

Georgia Holliday, one of our junior girls, had a great round last Saturday, blitzing the ladies field to take out the Mazda Monthly Mug with an amazing 65 nett.

Ann Lewis also enjoyed a wonderful round but had to settle for second place with 68.

The veterans played their November Medal round on Monday.

Arnie Olzard had the best nett score of the day with 65 to claim the A Grade Men's honours from John Martin 69.

In B Grade, John Pritchard pipped Adrian Evans on a count back with 66, while Michael Wilson 67 took C Grade by 2 shots from David McElhenny.

The Ladies Grade winners were Val McCormick 71, Carol Vidler 72 and Jenny Hilder 69.

Jane Page topped the leader board last Sunday with 39 points, just edging out Jenny Hilder on 38.

Wendy Taylor 38, Regina Schaerer 37, Tess Turner 36 and Karen Duke 36 all have had their turns at the top of the table during the last week.

Today the Ladies will play their November Monthly Medal, and it is also Monthly Medal for both Men and Ladies on Saturday, while Sunday sees the "Lefties v Righties" in their annual event.
