Irwin caught again and again

A MARYBOROUGH man caught urinating on the wall of a pub the day after he was released from the District Court on parole has been given a stern talking to.

Police officers saw Benjamin James Irwin relieving himself at Wharf Street on December 12.

Irwin, 24, was quick to explain his actions to the officers – he told them he needed to go and couldn’t hold on any longer.

He faced the Maryborough Magistrates Court this week where he was fined $200.

“This type of behaviour in a public place is filthy and unhygienic,” Magistrate John Smith said.

“A District Court judge let you out on parole just the day before. It never ceases to amaze me, the stupidity of people who are given chances by the higher courts. Wake up to yourself.”

Defence lawyer Travis George said Irwin was drunk at the time and had tried to use the toilets at the pub but they were occupied.

The day before, December 11, Irwin had been given a six-month jail term for receiving stolen property and unlawful entry of a car but was immediately paroled.
