A SEAL of approval from Oprah Winfrey has been likened to winning the jackpot for one small Brisbane business.
Since Simone Taylor's $40 shower turban was named one of Oprah's Favourite Things of 2017 two weeks ago, store visits for her business Louvelle Showerwear have increased by 900 per cent, recording an instant 5000 visits on day one. The endorsement also helped her land a distribution deal with Nordstrom department stores in the US.
"It is huge. It just doesn't stop," said Taylor, who was informed by Oprah's team to hire extra staff, increase production and improve her website in anticipation of the increased traffic.
"This will just increase our distribution because Oprah's seal of approval means it's got instant retail value."
The 34-year-old Brisbane mother of two, who also counts singers Kelly Rowland and Kelis as customers, invested $20,000 to launch the business in 2014, wanting to avoid returning to her corporate job after the birth of her second child.
With revenue growing 500 per cent each year, she hopes the exposure from Oprah's December magazine will see her eclipse $1 million in revenue.
"Only a small percentage of women who start a business make $1 million, so that's something I really want to accomplish," Taylor said.
"We are also already talking to Bloomingdales in the US."
Oprah's annual list features 102 products from around the globe. While Oprah is inundated with samples throughout the year, her team came across Louvelle Showerwear at a US trade show and requested a sample.
"A Blow-Out Is a Terrible Thing to Waste ... It's no secret that our country is deeply divided. But here's one thing we can all agree on: Every woman needs a good shower cap! These turban-style numbers have quick-dry fabric and a waterproof lining," Oprah said of the product.
