Increase in dumping of dogs ‘staggering’

THE number of dogs dumped and surrendered to the pounds is increasing at a staggering rate, says Wide Bay Animal Rescue pet co-ordinator Marie Barnes.

Ms Barnes said four days ago, three puppies were rescued after they were dumped at a property in Pacific Haven, Howard.

"The eight-week-old border collies were riddled with fleas when we found them," she said.

"And just yesterday we rescued another border collie after it was dumped at a toilet in Dundowran beach.

"We've also had 10 people come in to surrender their dogs in the past week alone." Ms Barnes said most people were devastated to surrender their dogs but had no choice but to move away to find jobs.

To adopt, call Ms Barnes on 0407 371 538 or visit the shelter at Cicada Lane.
