Injuries decimate Seagulls
THE Hervey Bay Seagulls' injury crisis has deepened with Anthony Lindeberg and Brock Eldridge joining the club's growing injury toll at a crucial point of the Bundaberg Rugby League season.
Lindeberg (shoulder) and Eldridge (back) join players and joint coaches Mitch Yarrow (ankle) and Tyrone Hopgood (back) on the sideline for tomorrow's final regular season clash against Isis at Salter Oval.
Yarrow admitted the spate of injuries that have cropped up couldn't have come at a worse time, but said it was a good chance for other players to grab their chance.
"Those guys are virtually playing for a position in the finals now," he said.
"They know blokes will be coming back from injury, but they have a great opportunity to stake their claim for a spot in the team."
Tomorrow's game against the Devils could be a prelude to a possible elimination final rematch a week later.
And with both teams coming off losses in the last round, Yarrow said there was a strong importance on gaining some momentum heading into the finals.
"There's nothing worse than coming off a loss and going into a do-or-die match with no confidence," he said.
"We've told the boys to just go out there with our game plan and not worry about who we're missing; just worry about the 13 (players) on the field."
A lot will once again rest upon the young halves pairing of Kurtis Everett and Sam Burns, and hooker Joel Denduck guiding the forwards around.
The Seagulls savoured a 28-24 victory the last time they played the Devils and Yarrow was confident it could get the job done again.
"If we come to the game with the right mindset and the boys execute the game plan we've been talking about then I'm sure we can get over the top of them," he said.
The Wallaroos, meanwhile, will be hoping to finish their long and frustrating campaign with an upset victory over the second-placed Western Suburbs tomorrow.
