St Kilda veteran eases injury fears

ST KILDA champion Nick Riewoldt has allayed fears regarding his injured knee, telling Fox Footy he is "relieved" by an early diagnosis.   Riewoldt was landing from an aerial contest when he took a second step and his knee appeared to buckle underneath him.   Play stopped as the stretcher came out for Riewoldt, who did not take any further part in the game.   But speaking with Fox Footy's David King after the match, Riewoldt said the initial prognosis from the St Kilda doctors was good news.   "It's a bit of relief," Riewoldt said.   "I feel like a bit of a goose now, but it was just the mechanism that occurred out there - I heard a pop and there was pain.   "I haven't done an ACL before, but that's what I thought I'd done.     "The docs are pretty happy with the mechanism and the testing they've done that it's not an ACL. But clearly there's something there.   "We'll investigate further tomorrow, but I think I've dodged a bullet.   "It's stiff and sore now. It'll be sore, but I'm just pretty relieved."   The Saints star had been excellent in the opening match of the season, booting four goals and taking seven marks in a strong performance.   Fox Footy's cameras later captured vision of Riewoldt walking around in the St Kilda changerooms.   The Saints were optimistic on Riewoldt's prospects, tweeting an update that said their doctors believed Riewoldt's knee was structurally "pretty sound".
