Internet shopping on the rise

BUSY lives are driving many people to the internet, even for basics such as fruit and vegetables.

And the business sector is jumping to meet the need.

Southern Gold Coast business Fruit and More To Your Door does 40 deliveries each week to the Tweed Shire and delivers to locations including Banora Point, Bilambil, Bilinga, Cobaki, Coolangatta, Fingal Head, Kirra, Piggabeen, Terranora, Tomewin, Tweed Heads and Urliup.

Owner Alison Emerson said she started the business with her husband three years ago in the southern Gold Coast.

“We do our deliveries to Tweed on Fridays and we usually do about 40 deliveries each week,” Mrs Emerson said.

“If people place their orders by 6pm on Wednesday they will get their deliveries on Friday.”

There are four different-size boxes people can order, and prices range from $24 to $57.

A small box for a small family or a couple includes a good mixture of fruit and vegetables, including; broccoli, carrots, lettuce, onions, potatoes, apples, bananas or other seasonal produce.

In the summer box there is mostly fruit and salad, in comparison to winter when there is mostly vegies.

Mrs Emerson said they only buy Australian produce and want to support Australian farmers.

“We always buy what we need each week and it's not organic, but we do get it straight from the market.

“We also have a buyer in Rocklea, Brisbane, and he knows what is good.”
