QUEENSLAND University of Technology is distancing itself from one of its lecturers who claimed "Islam is a cancer on the planet."

Tweeting in the wake of the most recent terror attacks in London, QUT professor Brian McNair posted a link to his followers alongside a Tweet stating "Enough! Islam is a cancer on the planet. It must be destroyed, or reformed. Soon. Zero tolerance!"

QUT was quick to respond to the Tweet claiming the university does not "endorse or condone these personal comments. They do not reflect the views of the university."
