Unlicensed driver escapes jail

A SERIAL road pest who was pulled over for driving unlicensed was lucky to escape jail when she fronted court last week.

Kylie Michelle Roberts already had a long traffic history and was disqualified from holding a driver's licence when she was pulled over on Pialba-Burrum Heads Road.

The Hervey Bay Magistrates Court was told that Roberts had made the decision to drive because she wanted to buy the morning paper.

Magistrate Tom Killeen said Roberts clearly had no respect for the law.

He said he would give her one last chance, but warned her what would happen if she decided to drive again.

“I'm sure no court will hesitate in sending you to jail for up to six months,” he said.

Roberts pleaded guilty and was fined $2000.

Mr Killeen also banned her from getting a driver's licence for five years.
