Oceania champion Jess Claxton rules senior female class

JESSICA Claxton was nominated as one of the athletes to watch and the 16-year-old did not disappoint.

The Oceania champion won the intermediate female class last year, and backed up that effort with her triumph in the seniors.

It was not easy for the West Australian, who was concerned Queensland's Katinka Von Elsner-Wellsteed would catch up.

"I thought Katinka might catch me as I was dead from that cycle," she said.

"I didn't want the second pack to come up so we did a lot of work. I tried to pick it up on the second lap."

Senior female

1. Jessica Claxton (WA)

2. Katinka Von Elsner-Wellsteed (Qld)

3. Emily Houston (Qld)
