Jobs to go as Crazy Clarks closes doors in Gladstone

TWELVE Gladstone employees will be left jobless when Crazy Clarks at the Windmill Centre closes its doors this month.

The bargain store is shutting on May 26, following unsuccessful negotiations over rent.

High rent prices and a lack of profit has also forced the imminent closure of the Rockhampton store.

Discount Superstores Group is closing its Rockhampton Stockland Crazy Clarks store next Thursday due to "excessive rental prices".

An area manager on Monday confirmed the closure would affect less than 10 staff members who worked at the North Rockhampton centre.

He said Discount Superstores Group could look at relocating the staff members to the South Rockhampton Crazy Clarks store in East St or Sam's Warehouse in Gladstone Rd.

Grant Vandenburg was handling the media for Crazy Clarks.

Mr Vandenburg said if the staff members could not be relocated, they would receive their full pay entitlements.

"The rent charges are excessive and the store is not economically viable," he said.
