HE hasn't captured any headlines, and going on the last 600m of his track gallop at Werribee, you probably won't hear too much about English trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam's Cox Plate runner Arod.

But the five year-old entire has impressed the man that counts most, his big race jockey Craig Williams who said he expected the "up close and personal" atmosphere at Moonee Valley on Saturday would stir the stallion into producing his true form on race day.

Arod is a $9 chance in the Cox Plate on the back of two wins from his past five starts in group company in England, including a last-start second to the highly-rated Solow in the Group One Sussex Stakes (1609m) at Goodwood on July 29.

The trackwork was the second time Williams had been on board the son of Teofilo, after riding him in a track gallop last weekend.

Arod did the usual slow pace work before being sent over 1400 metres under the clock. He didn't break any records, covering the final 600m of his work in a routine 36 seconds.

"I was able to ride him last week and get a comparison with him this week," Williams, who has won the race on Fields Of Omagh and Pinker Pinker, said.

"The horse is healthy and he's very well, but he's not going to break clocks."

French import Gailo Chop, now raced by an Aussie syndicate, worked sharply for Brad Rawiller, while Cox Plate favourite Highland Reel also topped off his preparations with a nice gallop.
