Join the record breaking mobility scooter convoy on Saturday

IT IS now almost time for the world's biggest mobility scooter and wheelchair convoy record to be set on the Fraser Coast.

Scooter riders will get their chance Saturday morning at Scarness.

Fraser Coast Regional Council councillor George Seymour said the current record, at158 and held by the Canadian town of Victoriaville, could be broken.

"The Scooter Convoy Record Attempt is a great way to highlight an important and growing form of transport in Hervey Bay," he said.

"It is important that we ensure this mode of transport is catered for in future planning... (and we) promote safety awareness for riders and others including pedestrians and motorists."

The morning will include a sausage sizzle and entertainment.

To pre-register, ring 4194 2441 or register on the day from 8am.

The world-record setting convoy will depart Scarness Foreshore Park at about 9.30am Saturday and return about half an hour later.
