Junior Maryborough basketballers set for grand finals

BASKETBALL: Tonight's junior grand finals will mark the end of an exciting new chapter in Maryborough Basketball.

The association's teenagers will play in deciders across five age groups, from under-12s to under-18s, and girls, at the Ariadne St stadium.

It will bring to an end the first season since the association reaffiliated with Basketball Queensland after a 17-year separation, which has not only provided Heritage City ballers with a clearer pathway to state honours and beyond, but lifted the standard of play.

Maryborough Basketball's Debra Alloway said the Magic's return to representative competition had already been felt at a local level.

"With reaffiliation with the state body and the rep competition, the kids are so excited for the future," she said.

"It's been really good.

"It does take time (for the effect of reaffiliation to be more noticeable) but it has lifted the standard."

Grand finals start at 4pm, with games on the hour. Presentations and awards will be held at 6.45pm.

Senior finals are next week. Go to www.maryboroughbasketball.com for more.
