Junior world champ's on big screen, in shark thriller

SURFING: From the surf to the big screen, Coolum teenager and reigning junior world champion Isabella Nichols is now appearing at a cinema near you.

Not that you're supposed to know.

She's the stunt double for actress Blake Lively in a shark thriller.

Isabella did what she does best during production of 'The Shallows' at Lord How Island last year.

"It was a great experience for her," her coach Tim Just said.

He has watched the surfing scenes.

"She's ripping in it, smashing waves left right and centre."

But he refuses to watch the film itself.

"I've seen the trailer for the movie and it looks pretty freaking scary so I'm not in any hurry to see it."

They've talked about sharks plenty of times.

"Surfers are always in domain of the big men in grey suits and that's not something we take lightly," Tim said.

Isabella was involved in the filming midway through her preparation for the junior world championships last year but it didn't stop her from winning that title.

Who knows, there could be more movie roles on the radar.

"When we have our planning meetings we don't factor Hollywood films into the annual program but she wouldn't discount doing something again if it came up," Just said.

Isabella is currently in Portugal for a World Surf League event, where she will try to qualify for the World Championship Tour.
