HERVEY BAY TRI: Juniors impress after Queensland champs

YOU only need to glance at Hervey Bay Triathlon Club's sixth race results to be impressed by our junior athletes' efforts.

Athletes like Toby Powers, James Thomas, Todd Baldwin and Kayla Munson all competed at the Queensland School Sport - Triathlon State Championships late last week, but finished among the leaders during Sunday morning's club meet.

Powers won the 14 years-and-under male category by four minutes, while Thomas pipped Baldwin in the 17-29 years men.

Munson did not finish her state championship race last week due to heat exhaustion, but she teamed with fellow Wide Bay rep to win the open mixed teams category.

Lars Olsen was the club's overall winner in a time of 36min 22sec, ahead of Thomas (37.44) and Baldwin (37.53).

Jeanette Grigoris was the overall women's winner in 48.06 ahead of Leona Clegg (51.54) and Kym Lingard (53.48).

The next triathlon will be held on March 20.
