Juniors end year in fine form

THE MARYBOROUGH Basketball Association season has finished in grand style for four junior teams – they’ve all been crowned premiers.

Bamboolza won the under 15B grand final showdown after beating Lightning Bolts by a single point in a nail biting grand final encounter.

Lightning Bolts held a seven point lead at the end of third quarter but their scoring rate dropped in the last quarter when they managed only five points compared to the 14 Bamboolza scored.

The comeback helped Bamboolza win 27-26.

Shaun Brake led the scoring for Bamboolza with 13 points while Mitchell Sama hit 13 for Lightning Bolts.

The Parke Panthers were too strong for Stunners in the under 14 B final winning 36-18.

Brodie Guan and Dannielle Tarlinton shared the scoring honours with a combined total of 28 points for Parke.

For Stunners, Cassie Scott was top- scorer with 10 points.

The under 14 A grand final between Scorpions and Riverside was also a close one with Scorpions finally coming out on top, 30-26.

Nick Young and Daniel Guan both scored eight points each for Scorpions while Daniel Zelinski led the way for Riverside with 23 of his teams 26 points.

In the under 16 B grand final, Tereimana Hawke was in top form for Wildcats in their triumph against Rollers scoring an impressive 22 points.

The Ray Alloway award for outstanding junior male player – Nick McKewin

The MJBA clubman award – Brett Tanner.

The Speech Solutions Encouragement awards – Tamika Peterson and Brodie Guan

The Allan and Dawn Vollmerhause rising star awards – Dannielle Tarlinton and Nicholas Young

The Presidents award for most improved high school player – Jay Scriven

The Presidents award for most improved primary school students – Tim Gibson and Juanita Gibson.
