Jury dismissed in financial adviser fraud trial

A JURY tasked to decide whether a Maleny financial adviser had defrauded a retiring couple of more than $2 million has been discharged.

Peter Hugh Mettam had already faced two weeks of a trial in Brisbane District Court when the justice had to end proceedings prematurely.

Trevor and Lorna Kyle had told the court they entrusted Mr Mettam with their family trust, superannuation and had even handed over money from mortgaging their house.

They told the court they never saw that money, which they planned to use for retirement and starting orphanages in Kenya and Thailand, again.

Mr Mettam pleaded not guilty to the fraud charges.

His trial has been listed again for November 17.
