Kal'ang Respite Care Centre officially opens

A FIVE-year journey is over for the Kal'ang Respite Care Centre with its new building in Torquay opening on Tuesday morning.

Cultural dancers and a welcome to country by birthday girl Aunty Joyce Smith kicked off opening celebrations.

Funds for the $1.9 million project came from a combination of grants from the Federal and State Governments through the Home and Community Care Program.

Kal'ang is dedicated to providing care and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island elders but its doors are open to non-indigenous members of the community in need of care as well.

The centre operated out of a residential house for years as it waited for its own building in Hervey Bay.
