Keen fisherman eager to see Burrum Boat ramp complete
THE Burrum Heads boat ramp can't come quick enough for keen fisherman Barry Smith.
It will mean the Howard resident will no longer have to drive his 21 foot boat 45 minutes to the boat ramp at Urangan.
Councillor Bruce Saunders said the boat ramp was still on track to be complete by Christmas 2016, weather permitting.
The project, which is well underway, involves constructing a new two-land boat ramp, floating walkway, rock groyne and parking facility at Lions Park.
The existing storm water pipe outlet will also be realigned to improve water quality upstream of Lions Park.
For Mr Smith, it has been a tough gig getting his boat back in after a day on the water with the strong currents.
"The new pontoon will be ideal to launch the boat and retrieve it by myself, even in Hervey Bay I need help," Mr Smith said.
"It have been waiting a long time," he said.
Mr Smith is looking forward to using the new boat ramp to take his grandson Brandon out on the boat.
"He loves fishing, we're inseparable."
