Faith in God keeps Myra young

NO DRINKING, no smoking and faith in God.

For Maryborough’s Myra Genrich, that has been the key to a long, healthy life.

“Especially faith in God – he looks after you.”

On Tuesday, a sprightly Ms Genrich celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by family at her Tinana home, which she helped her late husband Mick build in 1970.

One of seven children raised on the Moes family sugar cane and potato farm on River Heads Road, she has lived in the Fraser Coast region her whole life.

“I’ve lived on farms all my life and brought up 10 children – that’s why I am so tough,” she laughs.

Ms Genrich is a proud grandmother to 26, great-grandmother to 46 and great-great-grandmother to five.

She will catch up with many of them this weekend when the family gathers for a party at Westside Tavern.

“We’ve got guests coming from across the Wide Bay,” she said.

“I’m very much looking forward to it.”
