Kelly's on the rise
KELLY Heldoorn is one baker on the rise. Each morning Kelly rises from bed in the early hours to start work at 2.30 at Bakers Delight in Maryborough.
A recent arrival from Sydney to Maryborough, Kelly relishes her chosen career as a baker of fine quality fresh bread.
Kelly is the new manager of Bakers Delight in Maryborough and is part of a new franchise that has invested in Bakers Delight shops in Maryborough and Hervey Bay.
Attracted to the great lifestyle, Kelly and her family have recently moved in to their newly built home in Tinana. She says life is simply awesome as opposed to the hustle and bustle of Sydney.
She says the people are incredibly friendly and is looking forward to meeting new customers.
At 23, Kelly has completed her apprenticeship, gone on to become the head baker at Bakers Delight in Sydney and now she's running her own franchise in Maryborough and Hervey Bay.
Her first baking experience was helping her grandmother prepare breads for the family.
She always had enormous respect for bakers and their quest for the perfect loaf.
“I still have fond memories of baking with my grandmother and after exploring a couple of career options following high school, I decided to come back to baking and start an apprenticeship.”
Kelly started her apprenticeship at Bakers Delight in Liverpool, Sydney, in July 2003 and through hard work and natural talent, she was awarded an early completion of her five-year apprenticeship.
A dedicated baker, Kelly has also earned two prestigious industry awards including the Daryl Williams Award, as one of the top 20 bakers in Australia and New Zealand, and the Ron Gillespie Award for most outstanding apprentice.
“This year has been extremely busy. Just three weeks after receiving my qualification I was promoted to production manager, offering me greater responsibility and new challenges.”
With her can-do attitude and zest for ensuring perfection in all parts of the operation, Kelly looks forward to offering all her customers high quality service and delicious fresh breads.
Having a great team alongside is critical to the business and Kelly says she enjoys working with a strong and dedicated team of bakers and retail staff.
