ASHTON Agar is the name on everybody's lips today, including the Prime Minister's.

Kevin Rudd today paid tribute to the 19-year-old cricketer's record-breaking debut of 98 runs in the first Ashes Test.

"I think all Australians would like today to be declared Ashton Agar Day," Mr Rudd said.

"This is a young man who has just given such absolute delight to every Australian overnight.

"Whether you are a cricket fan or not, just the look of enthusiasm on this young man's face was enough to put the spring in the step of everyone this morning right across the country."
