Kitten thrown out of car window
SHE WAS left bleeding in the gutter but somehow a little malnourished kitten thrown from the window of a speeding car has managed to pull through.
Torquay resident Arielle Olsen has been nursing the kitten, believed to be about five weeks old, since it arrived on her doorstep last week.
About 8pm Tuesday her brother-in-law was riding his bike along the Esplanade when a speeding green Commodore with P plates came up behind him.
Ms Olsen said she believed the car had been travelling about 70-80kmh.
While he was surprised by the speed of the car, Ms Olsen’s brother-in-law was horrified by what happened next.
“The people in the Commodore slowed down, pulled down the window and yelled out ‘Here, have a cat’,” Ms Olsen said.
“At first he thought they had thrown a soft toy at him but then he saw it move.”
Ms Olsen said the kitten was bleeding from the mouth but was lucky not to have any broken bones.
“It’s just disgusting that people could have done this. It’s sick.”
When the kitten first arrived Ms Olsen thought it was a boy so they called it Aslan after the brave lion in the Chronicles of Narnia series.
She has since discovered it’s a girl but the name has stuck anyway.
“She was so skinny when she arrived that her face was pointy and she ate like a horse,” Ms Olsen said.
“But she was brave. We’ve decided she’s a keeper.”
Hervey Bay police were called to the scene on Tuesday night but as no registration details were provided for the car, they were unable to find it.
