Kmart recall: Microwave may burst into flames

A COMPONENT failure in a popular model of Kambrook microwave has led to a nation wide recall.

The microwave - the 30 litre KMO400 - is sold exclusively through Kmart stores for a price of $119.

A warning issued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission this morning stated anyone using the microwave should unplug it immediately.

"The defect may result in a fire, potentially causing injury to consumers or damage to surrounding area," a product recall notice read.

"Immediately stop using the appliance and unplug it from the socket outlet. Consumers are to return the unit to any Kmart store nationally in exchange for a replacement Kambrook Essentials Microwave Oven 30L (KMO400)."

The fault is only batch related and consequently the same microwave is still available for sale.

Consumers are advised to contact Kambrook on 1800 500 188 (8.30am -5.00pm AEST, Monday to Friday), email recall@kambrook.com.au or visit www.kambrook.com.au/recall(link is external) to find out if their appliance is affected.
