WILDLIFE conservationists are staging a peaceful protest at a development site in Tinana on Wednesday morning after a section of "prime koala habitat" was cleared without warning.

Maryborough conservationist Natalie Richardson said the area in Henderson Park estate was home to at least half-a-dozen koalas at any given time.

She and other wildlife carers are searching through felled trees for koala remains.

The bulldozing crews have ceased clearing work.
