Latham out of Brisbane Global Tens due to injury
A HAMSTRING injury in Queensland Reds' final training session robbed former Wallabies fullback Chris Latham of the chance to play in the inaugural Brisbane Global Tens.
Latham was the Reds' first wildcard for the tournament, which is being played at Suncorp Stadium this weekend.
The opportunity came about after a simple phone call from Reds coach Nick Stiles, who asked if the 41-year-old considered himself fit enough to play. and if he was interested.
It was an easy decision to make for Latham, who played 127 Super Rugby games and 78 Tests for the Wallabies.
"I've always played rugby for the love of it, I love the sport," Latham told the Chronicle in the lead-up to the event.
"It's a game where age limits how long you can spend in the sport.
"When opportunities come up to put the boots on again and play it certainly is very attractive to get out there and play the game at a competitive rate.
"That's the only drive I need really."
Latham was disappointed to be ruled out through injury, though hoped the format became an annual event so he can compete in future.
