Comments on building records

“THE FRASER Coast Regional Council’s Building Services Department conducts ‘building records searches’ requested by customers who are buying or selling a property,” a spokesman said.

“For a modest fee the council will search out the past history of a property to determine if and when a building works approval was issued and for what type of building or structure.

“Unfortunately, the effectiveness of the service is dictated by the amount and type of information that Council’s records system has at its disposal.

“In Maryborough, the council only has records available for buildings or structures constructed post-1980.

“In this case, council’s building records search for the property in question identified that a building approval had been issued for the removal of a house in 1995. However, the search was unable to unearth any details relating to an existing paint shop which had been erected on the property due to it being pre-1980 in age.”
