Learn about vandaceous and slipper orchids next week

LOCAL green thumbs will have the chance tap into 30 years of orchid-growing experience on Tuesday, June 11, at the Hervey Bay Orchid House.

Local grower and orchid judge Terri Bade will host a presentation on vandaceous and slipper orchids from 10am to 11.30am.

Organiser and horticulturalist Darryl Coombes said Terri has been growing and showing orchids on the Fraser Coast for more than three decades.

"Terri is a retired school teacher and is a wealth of knowledge on orchid care and growing techniques," he said.

"He is a registered orchid judge and has collected multiple awards at orchid shows around the region.

"This event is not to be missed if you want to learn more about orchid culture."

Entry is by gold coin donation and includes a free cup of tea or coffee.

The Orchid House has extended its opening hours and is now open from 10am to 1pm on the second Sunday of every month, starting this Sunday, June 9.
