Learn more about bats at Hervey Bay Library

BAT lover John Parsons will be at the Hervey Bay library today to answer all questions related to the winged mammal.

He will be there from 8.30am on Thursday and Friday.

Mr Parsons said more than 500 man-made micro bat homes have been placed around the Fraser Coast to find out more about the tiny critters.

While his research focuses on micro bats, they are just one of 25 species on the Fraser Coast.

He said all types of bats, including the Australian black flying fox, were an essential part of the native eco-system.

Some acted as pollinators, in a similar way to bees.

"People are becoming more interested in the bats because of the work we have been doing," he said.
