Les backs colouring pages protest
LES MUCKAN has backed Allan Woodward’s protest against the exclusion of Aboriginal people on Australia Day colouring pages issued by a national network of councils, committees and organisations.
Yesterday the Chronicle reported Mr Woodward’s disgust that the colouring pages did not feature Aborigines but showed Islamic people joining white people to celebrate.
“How can we have reconciliation when Aborigines aren’t recognised?” said Mr MucKan, a Fraser Coast councillor of Aboriginal blood.
“It goes back to out of sight, out of mind. It’s not good enough.”
Mr MucKan said that despite some Aboriginal people viewing January 26 as the anniversary of the European invasion of their land, he would be attending celebrations on the Fraser Coast to encourage reconciliation.
