Life in the slow lane on Lammy

IT has caused road rage and headaches for many Maryborough drivers, but the end is not in sight for the Lamington Bridge repairs.

The 40kmh zone is quickly becoming a joke among most who have to travel the route daily.

Maryborough business owner and mother Sharon Camilleri travels the Lamington Bridge daily and has had enough of the 40 zone.

“It is just ridiculous,” she said.

“The bridge looks the same since the floods and people rarely do 40 across there anyway.”

The issue has been in the hands of the Department of Main Roads since the January floods.

A department spokesperson said the reduced speed limit had been implemented for the safety of motorists until the bridge rails were replaced.

“We're working as quickly as possible to get the railings reinstalled and we appreciate the patience of motorists while the final designs and necessary approvals are being sought,” they said.

“In the interest of safety the 40kmh speed limit will continue until the bridge works are completed.”

There is no end in sight for frustrated motorists.

“Once the design and approval stages are complete, we will have a better idea of how long it will be for the bridge to be returned to a 60km speed limit.”
