Lisas art to be shared with kids
DABBLING in Aboriginal arts and crafts can be high on the to-do lists of children and early teens during the school holidays.
Lisa Campbell from the Arrernte tribe of Central Australia is keen to share her culture with young people on the Fraser Coast and the classes at Janet’s Art in Maryborough are the perfect means to do it.
“Coming from Alice Springs where Aboriginal culture is everywhere, the lack of it on the Fraser Coast is noticeable – it’s not easy to find.
“These classes will be great for kids to learn about the dreamtime and how early indigenous people communicated,” Lisa said. “I’ll use art that’s for sharing with the public and which tells our way of life.”
The mother of three said her art focused on bush tucker and her experiences as a desert park tour guide in Alice Springs.
Janet Revill from Janet’s Art said the classes were open to young people of all races and would run in two groups – 6 to 10 years and 10 to 15 years.
Classes will run between January 11 and 23. For details and bookings phone Janet’s Art, Kent Street, Maryborough, on 4123 1117.
