CUTE PICS: Little ones' true characters on show for Book Week

IF you have spotted vampires, dinosaurs and princesses on your way to work in the morning this week, there is a legitimate reason.

Cooper Spark and Connor Griffiths were among hundreds of Fraser Coast kids dressing up as their favourite characters as part of Children's Book Week.

Each year, across Australia, the Children's Book Council of Australia brings children and books together in a week-long celebration.

Throughout the week, libraries, schools and children celebrate all forms of reading for the little ones.

The week is designed to encourage children to enjoy the world of reading through story times, school projects and the big parades.

On the Fraser Coast, character parades have been held through the week at different schools including Sandy Strait State School and Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School.

This year's theme was Australia Story Country, encouraging young readers to pick up a book, written in and about the sunburnt country.

Children's Book Week wraps up today with the book council's announcement of the 2016 Book of the Year.
