Local orchid guru to give talk in Urangan next week

LOCAL orchid guru Keith Holland will speak at the Hervey Bay Orchid House on Tuesday, September 10, from 10am to 11.30am.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Horticulturist Darryl Coombes said Keith had a wealth of knowledge and always drew a good crowd.

"He's a very popular speaker," he said.

"Keith will primarily discuss the cultural and potting requirements of soft cane Dendrobiums, including answering any questions he can from the guests.

"He's been a volunteer for the better part of a decade so it's a great chance for people to come down for a visit and pick up some valuable tips and information."

Entry is via a gold coin donation and includes a cup of tea or coffee.

The Orchid House collection includes 85 different orchid genera including rare species like Vanilla planifolia and accompanying indoor plants the Fraser Island King Fern, Pitcher Plant and the giant White Bat Plant.

For more information on the Hervey Bay Orchid House, at the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens in Elizabeth St at Urangan, phone Darryl Coombes on 4125 9870 or 0448 001 759.
