Local shows off luxury cars

AFTER losing two mates in a road crash near Cooroy this year, Russell Warburton knows all too well the importance of road safety.

But it hasn’t dampened his passion for cars.

He currently owns a Porsche and a Lotus Esprit, the latter of which he showed off to the public at Maryborough Special School’s Show and Shine last weekend.

“This is my third Lotus,” he said.

“I’ve always loved the Esprit and I think Roger Moore is to blame.

“He drove them in the Bond films and then Julia Roberts drove one in Pretty Woman.

“I’ve always loved the shape, the classic wedge.

“They are all hand-built and reasonably rare.

“I bought this one from the UK and shipped it here.”

The Lotus Esprit has a 2.2-litre twin-cam turbo-charged engine which generates about 245 horsepower.

“It goes from zero to 100 in about five seconds,” he said.

“It’s designed for handling and acceleration.

“But you don’t have to go very fast.

“I love my cars but I also want to promote road safety amongst young drivers after losing my mates in a two-car crash.”

Despite his love of the Lotus, Russell is willing to listen to offers if there are others keen to get their hands on it.
