Local VMR opens doors to public

VMR Hervey Bay will be opening its doors to the public for an open day on August 14.

Jenny Hudson of the Volunteer Marine Rescue service said the base would be open from 10am until 4pm with a wide range of displays and exciting events planned.

“We will be showing people through the rooms, through our boats, and letting them see just how the rescue service operates,” she said.

There will be a sausage sizzle and second hand ‘boat bits' stall.

Before the event the VMR is asking for donations of unwanted boating goods for auction on the day.

All money raised will go toward the continued operating costs of the service.

Mrs Hudson said there would also be a historical marine display set up on the day and members of the rescue organisation would be on hand to answer questions and offer boating safety advice.

For further information or membership enquiries VMR Hervey Bay can be contacted on 4128 9666.
