OPINION: Loft has an uncanny ability to backflip

RUMOURED mayoral candidate Chris Loft has an extraordinary ability to change his mind on issues.

During last year's dramas with Fraser Coast Opportunities, Cr Loft described the tourism body as a "cancer" that needed to be cut out.

Fast forward a year and Cr Loft has been a great supporter of the organisation, calling on his councillor colleagues to leave it alone.

In 2014 he voted against the council's budget and called for an independent review of finances.

He said "savings" was not a dirty word and suggested leaving some of the council's services to "not-for-profit organisations".

Despite months of internal discussions Cr Loft used the council's public meeting to strike out several projects to create savings - which CEO Lisa Desmond estimated would save ratepayers $1 million.

More recently his usual criticism of the establishment has been missing.

In more recent council meetings Cr Loft was less controversial, and showed the diplomacy of a man attempting to fly under the radar. I never know what to expect when Cr Loft offers comment. He must make positive policy known.
