Love blooms in garden store proposal caught on camera

WHEN Karl Stidolph decided he wanted the perfect way to propose to girlfriend Joy, he knew he had to call upon family friends to make a day they happy couple would never forget.

The 20-year-old was certain after just two months of dating Joy that he would marry her, but was unsure how to make the engagement unique to their story.

Luckily, Sue Hoffman owner of Gardens Galore had the perfect idea.

"Joy loves gardening and all that kind of stuff so I wanted to do something different and special," Karl said.

"I knew Sue ever since I was a baby and I knew she'd be able to do something.

"Her first response was really excited and she and whole her team were happy to get on-board."

Placing hidden cameras around the garden, Karl and the Garden's Galore team were able to make Joy's 21st birthday one she could always look back on fondly as the day she said yes.

"I had a funny feeling she would have already known because I accidentally sent her a message about it meant for my mum to her but luckily, she didn't read it all and she was very surprised," he said.

"She absolutely loved the location."

The pair met in Year 8 at Warwick State High School, but only started dating five and a half months ago.

"We were the best of friends. It sounds cringy but from grade 9 onwards, we were like family, loved each other dearly," he said.

"Honestly, I feel like it was about two months into the relationship before I was like 'this is the girl I want to marry and be with the rest of my life.'

"I found a ring and sat my parents down and said 'I think I'm ready'."

While coronavirus means the pair is unlikely to have their dream wedding anytime soon, for now they were more than happy to bask in their newly-engaged glow.

"We're happy to take it as it comes," Karl said,

"We don't want to rush it. We just want to enjoy it while life comes around."
