Kiss for a milestone as love blooms strong 70 years on

NOELLE Edards can't remember exactly why it was she married her husband Fred seventy years ago.

"I don't know, it just happened," she said.

"I had quite a few boyfriends before but they weren't serious," she said.

"And he was an English Navy sailor and sailors, well, they have girls at every port."

But after their eyes locked one night at a dance in 1945, the couple fell madly in love.

Two weeks later, wedding bells rang.

The Maryborough couple, now aged in their 90's and with "too many great grandchildren to count", have never regretted the decision.

While Fred got Noelle a diamond ring for their 60th wedding anniversary, he opted to give her a kiss for their 70th.

The couple celebrated their platinum anniversary on Monday.

Noelle said their secret to marriage success was simple.

"We are both happy, we agree and we don't fight much," she said.
