Love triangle fuels feud

TWO men involved in an ongoing feud since one hooked up with the other’s ex-wife took their problems to the Monduran fishing competition.

Brooweena’s Scott Smith, 32, found his car and boat trailer tyres slashed during the October competition and he thought he knew exactly who did it.

So at 5am on October 10 he entered the tent of David Wykes and grabbed the unsuspecting man’s mattress.

Wykes was tipped off his mattress and then found his tent collapsing around him.

But Smith went one step further and tipped Wykes’s boat so it was dislodged from its trailer.

Smith was charged with common assault and wilful damage and faced Maryborough Magistrates Court this week where he pleaded guilty to both charges.

Defence solicitor Jim Fairlie said there was a history of problems between the two men.

“The complainant is an unhappy man because his ex-wife is now living with Mr Smith,” Mr Fairlie said.

“The defendant didn’t exercise good judgement when he decided to confront the man.

“There was no actual damage done to the boat, or to the tent.”

Smith was fined $250.

Magistrate John Smith did not record a conviction against him.
