Man to appear in court after stabbing woman several times

POLICE have charged a man following an incident in North Mackay overnight.

Around 1.40am, police will allege a verbal altercation occurred at a Canberra St property before a 17-year-old woman was stabbed several times in the chest.

An 18-year-old man who attempted to assist the woman was then allegedly stabbed several times in the upper thigh.

The man and woman were taken to Mackay Base Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

A 31-year-old Gracemere man has been charged with burglary, two counts of assault, two counts of attempt to cause grievous bodily harm and assault police.

He is scheduled to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court today.
