Magpies decide not to appeal Grundy ban

COLLINGWOOD won't appeal the two-match penalty handed down to Brodie Grundy for his bone-jarring tackle on Ben Brown on the weekend.

And Geelong, Essendon and GWS have also decided against contesting the one-match bans handed down to their stars Mitch Duncan, Zach Merrett and Shane Mumford, respectively.

Brown suffered a sickening concussion when his head hit the ground at the Docklands stadium after receiving a tackle from Grundy.

Grundy will miss the Magpies' upcoming trip to face Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval, as well as a round 22 clash with Geelong as a result of the suspension.

It is the first time in Grundy's 81-game career he will miss a game due to suspension.

The Giants will be without star ruckman Mumford for Friday night's showdown against the Western Bulldogs.

Mumford was charged for making high contact with opposite number Max Gawn in last week's win over Melbourne.

Meanwhile, veteran Bulldogs premiership star Matthew Boyd will retire at the end of the season.

Boyd, 34, who could return this Friday against GWS from an Achilles injury, made the announcement yesterday. "I finish with absolutely no doubts about my ability to contribute,” Boyd told reporters.

"Last year ... I still felt like I had something to give. It's been a fantastic journey. I knew this year was going to be my last.

"I feel extremely fortunate to play the game as long as I played.”
