Man, 51, accused of punching baby appears in court

A 51-YEAR-old man accused of punching a 12-month-old baby in the face will defend the charge.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, allegedly punched the baby boy on Old Maryborough Rd, Pialba late last month.

The boy was taken to the Hervey Bay Hospital.

Duty lawyer John Milburn told the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday the man would be contesting the assault charge.

Mr Milburn asked for the matter to be adjourned so he could be provided with a brief of evidence from the police.

The man will appear again on September 12.
