Man charged over fatal hwy crash

UPDATE 9:30am: A 23-year-old man has been charged following a crash on the Bruce Highway on Saturday morning that killed one man and left one woman with severe injuries.

The crash involved a motorcycle and a car and happened at about 7am on Saturday near Torbanlea.

The 62-year-old motorcycle driver from Bundaberg was taken to Bundaberg Base Hospital but died yesterday afternoon.

HIs 62-year-old female pillion passenger, also from Bundaberg, was airlifted to Brisbane yesterday afternoon and remains in a critical condition.

Both people were from Bundaberg.

The driver of the car has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

He is due to appear in Maryborough Magistrates Court on Monday.

 

UPDATE: A MOTORCYCLE rider has been killed in a serious crash on the Bruce Hwy near Torbanlea this morning.

The man, who is believed to be in his early 60's, was travelling south with a female passenger when his bike collided with a north-bound Holden Commodore at 7.20am.

Emergency officers worked to stabilise the motorbike rider at the crash site for more than half an hour, before the AGL rescue helicopter airlifted the man to Bundaberg Base Hospital where he later died.

Four people were involved in the crash, with three people sustaining injuries, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service station officer Shaun Murphy said.

"The male rider of the motorbike was airlifted out with severe injuries and his female passenger has also been transported to hospital with serious injuries as well," Mr Murphy said.

"A male passenger from the car has also been taken to hospital with minor injuries but the male driver of the car appears to be uninjured."

The female motorbike passenger, who was aged in her 60's, was reported to be in a critical but stable condition at the Maryborough Base Hospital.
