Man accused of raping Toowoomba woman held in custody

UPDATE: A man was taken into police custody just hours after a woman filed allegations of rape against him.

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch investigated after a 23-year-old woman reported the alleged incident to officers on Monday.

Those investigations led to a 24-year-old man being charged with one count of rape.

The man was taken into custody Monday afternoon and spent the night at the Toowoomba watch house.

The matter was mentioned briefly in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court when it was adjourned to a later date.

EARLIER: A man accused of raping a Toowoomba woman is due to front court this morning.

Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch detectives investigated the sexual assault complaint after a 23-year-old woman contacted police yesterday.

Those investigations led to a 24-year-old man being charged with one count of rape.

The man was taken into custody yesterday and will today appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Police are expected to object to any application for bail.
