Man facing 83 charges withdraws bail application

THE man accused of a two-week crime spree which ended in Hervey Bay on Wednesday has withdrawn his bail application.

Michael Peter Strack, 36, did not appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Friday morning but had instructed defence lawyer Michael Riedel to withdraw his application.

He is facing 83 charges including theft of a number of cars, evading police and stealing.

It is alleged the offences occurred in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Bundaberg and the Fraser Coast.

Strack had attempted to apply for bail on Thursday afternoon but was told to think about it overnight by Magistrate Graeme Tatnell.

Mr Tatnell was visibly shocked by Strack's original request for bail.

After the bail application was withdrawn, Mr Tatnell adjourned the matter to January 21 next year.
