Man found dead in back of ute parked at service station

POLICE have discovered a man aged in his 50s dead in his ute parked at the Puma Bohle Roadhouse.

District duty officer Scot Warwick said CIB detectives and scenes of crime officers went to the ute at noon today.

The man, who appeared to have died a day or two prior, was lying in the back of the ute.

"(The man) travels and sleeps in the back of the ute, it looks like it's set up for camping," he said.

"We're working to identify him ... we're using ID cards to confirm his identification."

Police believe the death was non-suspicious but the exact cause of death is unknown.

The man's body was transported to Townsville Hospital where a Coroner's report will be prepared.

The ute was towed.

Puma Bohle Roadhouse staff would not comment.
